Ootd: Rain Gear!

Oh Boston, you're so wild! Snow, then rain, then hail and snow again. It's a slushy mess outside today. Don't use bad weather as an excuse to look a hot mess. Lol. A simple scarf and bright rain boots will spice up any outfit. Here's my look:

I rolled and tucked my hair away so I'll avoid frizz .

Stay dry y'all!

Protective styles...

Hello Friends,

To all my ladies who are ready to fall back into protective styling techniques for the fall and winter months, say yeaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh! YEAAAHHHH! lol.

Us curly girls have got to stay on top of protecting our fragile ends from the crisp dry air that is soon to come. Last weekend, I decided to deep condition and twist up my hair.  I intend to keep the style for about a week. While rocking protective styles, we still need to keep up with moisturizing our strands. I decided to simply mix water with a light leave in. (Kinky Curly) I lightly mist my hair morning and night to be sure my hair stays plump and full of moisture.

I simply flat twisted the sides and left the crown and back area in 2 strand twists.
Take a peek at these super cute updo/ protective style pics I found while looking around on-line.

Tutorial for this style here!
This pic is from Thirstyroots.com
Another up-do I tried. Simply add a side part,  french braid a chunk of hair on the side and continue around 3/4 of your head, pin top into your preferred shape and step out looking super cute!!

It's cleary possible to protect your locks and look good while doing it.
Have fun with your hair and remember to protect those ends!!!!

What protective styles do you like to rock? Feel free to share below.

Soft, shiny, springy twists!

Hello friends,

I hope your weekend is off to a great start.

It will be raining in Boston for the next few days.  The forecast let me to decide: I may as well twist my hair up for a while, rather than attempt to combat frizz. Last night, I twisted my hair using only two products. Beautiful Curls,  Curl Activating Shea Butter leave in and Profectiv Anti- breakage Growth Revitalizer Hair & Scalp Conditioner.

I got my best twist results ever. ( By ever I mean in the last 10 months, that's how long I've been natural.)

I had not previously tried the Beautiful curls leave in.When I saw it at Whole Foods, my mom said she had some at home and I could take it to try.(That's why I love my mama.) The Profectiv, is a product I have had laying around since my relaxed hair days. I decided to use it Profectiv to seal in the moisture from the leave in  for two reasons. One, I've been on the hunt for the Jane Carter Nourish and Shine. I haven't been able to find it anywhere! The texture of the Profectiv looked comparable to the Jane Carter product. Two, the Profectiv costs 1/4 of what Jane Carter costs. I figured it couldn't hurt to try a new combination of products.

I'm so glad I tried these products. My hair is ultra moisturized, shiny, and soft! SCORE!!

Have you tried any of the Beautiful Textures or Profectiv products? If you have, please share.

"The Beauty Within"

Sitting in the house on a gloomy afternoon = me deep conditioning my hair and  lots of surfing the internet. While on YouTube, I came across this video by Dead Prez called "The Beauty Within"
This song is really cute. A total shout-out to the natural ladies.
Not knocking relaxed girls, just uplifting naturals.

I hope you enjoy!

Naturals Night...

Hello Friends and Happy Saturday!

Last weekend, I had the pleasure of hosting a Naturals Night at my apartment. Naturals Night is; a time for curly, kinky, coily, and wavy haired beauties, to come together for food, drinks, and discussion. We had yummy drinks, delicious food/desserts, and we all brought our favorite hair products to share and give tips on usage and results.

Today, I'd like to give you a sneak peek into our Naturals Night. I had a blast! ( I know my ladies did too)
I didn't get to capture as many moments as I wish I could have... But. you'll get the idea!

Note: Any food/drink items listed, I will gladly post recipes for. (If I haven't already)

Naturals Night ;-)

We love our hair!
The lovely M, of The ArtsyGirl Connection
Food and discussions...
Laughing as we struggle to open a bottle of champagne...
My favorite Manicurist in Boston came over and gave us all manicures!
( My fav part of the night.)
Nina, making sure she didn't chip her mani!
( after the battle with the bottle of champagne.)
Treat boxes for my ladies to take home. The box included: Lip gloss which I named "Naturals Night Lip Nectar, (made by yours truly, of course I will share the recipe.)  a cute candle marked
"Be natural", and a white chocolate lollipop.

Some of what  we snacked on: Yummy chocolate cake Balls
delicious dip for tortilla chips and Mom's delicious Mac and Cheese. (sooo good!)

The drinks for the night were INSANELY yummy!

A warm Spiked cider which consisted of:
Fresh fruit, apple cider, cinnamon, and Rum. Delicioso!
 A super fruity Sangria!
Both of the drinks were gorgeous and tasty!

Since the food and drinks were so colorful and beautiful, they became part of the decor. (Until they disappeared!) Other decor included a beautiful bouquet of flowers that were out on my side table.

Naturals Night was filled with beautiful women, who enjoyed each others company. There were laughs, enlightenment and an overall sense of relaxation and joy.
I had so much fun treating my ladies and enjoyed their company.
I'm thinking "Maybe Naturals Night was the first annual?"
Definitely something I would looooove to do again!

Thanks for stopping in!

I'm excited. I chopped off my hair back in July. For the first time in months, I'm able to pin it up. It just feels sooo good! I just felt the need to share!

This weekend I hosted a natural hair night at my apartment. I can't wait to share photos and recipes with you all later this week...
